Career Services is available to assist Mercer faculty.

The success of our graduates reflects positively on the preparation they receive in the classroom.

Encourage students to engage in career planning early in their Mercer experience. You can help students engage earlier by incorporating the following into your courses:

  • Career presentations (click the topic tab to the left)
  • Career trends
  • Assessments (Myers-Briggs, SII, SDS)
  • Career decision-making
  • Career related events

   Help Them Find Opportunities.

The college degree is a critical step in achieving the career that our students are seeking. However, the career doesn’t just land in our students’ laps right after graduation. Many hours of exploration, research, and preparation go into landing the “right” job.

The Career Services staff recognizes that many class assignments have career opportunities woven within them. We call these “Career Coaching Moments.” We want faculty to see these moments too. If students can be awakened about the opportunity to turn a class assignment into something that positively affects their career, more than one objective has been accomplished.

Advise students to make an appointment with us for strategic guidance through these opportunities. Or, ask a Career Services Representative to make a tailored presentation to your class.

Increasing opportunities for Mercer students and alumni.
That’s what Career Services is all about.

If you know of professional job or internship openings, please communicate them with Mercer’s Career Services Office, or refer the employer to us. We can post jobs and internships in BEARlink free-of-charge.

Faculty Referrals to Career Services

Our desire is to assist students. However, sometimes, without notice to us, groups of students are given an assignment to visit Career Services. In some of those cases, we may not be able to accomodate the students; this is due to a variety of factors, which can include existing high demand for our services based on upcoming events such as career fairs, students waiting until deadlines to seek services, and a large volume of students seeking services in a short timeframe. By calling us well in advance, we can work together to best meet the needs of our students with our existing resources, and to make sure students are appropriately prepared.

The Career Services Office is not a job-placement service, a staffing agency, an executive recruiter, a resume or cover letter writing service.

The Career Services Office does provide the following:

  • Counseling, Coaching, and Consulting
  • Career Transition and Management Planning
  • Resume and Cover Letter Critiques
  • Professional Statement Critique for Graduate School Entrance
  • Individual Assessments
  • Interview Preparation and Feedback, Mock Interviews
  • Strategic Job-Search Preparation
  • Personal Marketing Plan, Networking
  • Negotiating Skills
